Last week I told you about performing SWOT analyses. Today I present my final pointer from my session at the Seen Approached Employed Summit. This will help you realign yourself from becoming product focused to becoming solutions focused.
Think about the time when you last went on a holiday. When you went on this holiday, there were a number of essentials that helped you along the journey. The taxi/train that took you to the airport, the check in queue, security check, the flight itself and so forth. All these were necessities. But you don’t want to do any of this. All you wanted was to be on holiday, to sit on that sunny beach and sip cocktails!
Similarly, think about the people who need your capabilities and services. Do you want to be seen as what they need or what they want? You’re right, you need to position yourselves from what your target audience needs to what your target audience wants. So, how do you do this? The way you do it is by going from being product focused (focusing on yourselves) to solutions focused (focusing on how you can be of use to them).
I admit this is not easy. To go from focusing on your strengths, which you know best, to focusing on how you’re going to help others, is hard work. However, that is what you must do, to stand out from the rest of the crowd.
Again, if you want to know more or share your SWOT comparison, feel free to get in touch.
This is effectively my final blog post for 2020, an unexpected and unthinkable year. Maybe this not the year we wanted, but the year we needed, to realign ourselves, to prioritise our life’s wants and needs, to spend more time with those we love, and doing things that we love, and most of all, to survive!
Season’s Greetings and a very Happy New Year from me to all of you!
